2023 Awards in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is one of OMEP’s priorities. Since 2010, OMEP World has sponsored a travel awards competition for outstanding ESD projects by OMEP members. They have focused on the different dimensions of ESD and on the UN SDGs and the 2030 Agenda, focusing this year on projects that focus on play and learning for sustainability.

The awarded projects of this 14th edition 2023 are:

· Sustainable preschool (CPE Durable)

Mélanie Bélanger with colleagues Martine Bertrand, Carine Marina, Geneviève Goulet-Jutras, Annick Drouin, Monique Talbot, Lizbeth Gallego Robles, at CPE L’arche de Noé, Canada

· Play for the Planet: Supporting Creativity and Sustainability in Early Childhood Education

Özge Metin ASLAN, Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University and Esen Hacıömer, Cikcilli Mehmet Emine Öncü Preschool, Turkey

· Children and Teachers Together – A Study on ESG in Children’s Play – from a Teacher’s Perspective

Choi Eun-joo, Yangji 2 Childcare Center, Korea

· When Thoughts Grow, the World Changes

Oh Young Hee, Korea National Ministry of Defense Kindergarten, Korea

In addition, the Education for Sustainable Development prizes for students were awarded, a competition that OMEP started in 2019 to recognize the contributions of students to ensure a sustainable future. OMEP invites all undergraduate and graduate students (bachelor’s or master’s level) to participate in this competition.

This year, the winning project of the 5th edition 2023 was:

· Center of Creative Reuse

Maria Fernanda Aburto, Fernanda Alvarado, Sofia González and Ursula Neculman, Central University of Chile in Santiago.
