Celebration of the International Day of Peace 2022 in Tolosa, Spain

The 20th edition of the International Festival for Peace 2022 took place on September 17 in Tolosa, Spain, as a symbolic moment of celebration of peace, proposed by a group of official UNESCO partner NGOs, including OMEP, represented by Odet Noa Comans from Cuba, Mie Oba from Japan and Lisbeth Gouin from France.

Around twenty groups committed to peace education under the auspices of the liaison committee, including two OMEP committees (Nigeria, Poland and Ukraine), symbolically celebrated a minute of peace and demanded to stop violence in all its forms. Civil society organizations around the world are encouraged to continue and increase their efforts and activities to promote a culture of peace, recognizing that culture of peace is not simply the absence of conflict, but also a set of values, attitudes, behaviors and forms of life that reject violence, a positive, dynamic and participatory process that promotes dialogue and conflict resolution in a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation.

As part of the program, a round table on “Peace, Art and Youth” was held, where OMEP was represented, a puppet workshop on peace for children, a cultural walk through the city, and to conclude, five choirs from different parts of the world performed a concert celebrating PEACE.

Placing the International Day of Peace 2022 within the framework of promoting a culture of peace and non-violence for the benefit of the children of the world (UN Resolution 52/15) is a priority in our current world. For more information: https://www.bakea.eus/en/
