Challenges and educational proposals for children – OMEP Uruguay

The situation of health, social and economic crisis that we are going through worldwide is unprecedented, it affects us personally and professionally and it requires us professionally. Among other things, preserve our bond with children by promoting interaction between them.

The childhoods of the 21st century were already immersed, before the pandemic, in a world mediated by technology, we were working to enforce the recommendation of the World Health Organization … that we share … regarding not exposing young children to screens for many hours.

In these circumstances, technology is useful for us to establish technology-mediated communication with children through their families in contexts of revaluation of human ties. It is necessary to use different multimedia resources and other strategies that acting in complementation enable us to reach all with inclusive proposals.

Among the activities to be proposed, play and artistic expressions must be privileged in alliance with the world of art and culture, respecting the cultures of belonging … body experiences, movement, oral language as a way of communication and literature as enjoyable. The presence of a referring adult or several … alternating … with which to generate alliances acquires great relevance at this time, adult people to support and accompany in the active listening of the child and in their physical care and emotional.

The proposals that reach the families to be carried out with the child must be slow, with the possibility of adjusting to personal and family rhythms; Globalized, framed in a project or center of interest that invites the child to play, experimenting, investigating and discovering what his nearby environment offers him: his house, turned into a space that enables play and movement.

As Tonucci puts it, in a large laboratory where there is much to discover and investigate. The activities should not respond to a compartmentalized disciplinary approach presented to children in the form of “tasks” that are meaningless to them, in response to demands from political, educational, institutional authorities or from the families themselves.

What does correspond to us is to keep alive in children the desire to question themselves, to learn, to interact with others, to discover by playing to meet us in person, establishing lines of continuity with what has been done in this period. Let’s spread and practice the image of powerful children, subjects of law, citizens from birth, protagonists, bearers of great potential, with the right to propose, choose, participate and decide.

Vigilantes in the fulfillment of their rights we work in networks from the virtuality so that the children and their families in a vulnerable situation find in civil society organizations and especially in the State the supports that guarantee their right to food, to housing , to health, to recreation … in adults to work with a living wage and in children to play and education.
