On behalf of OMEP World Executive Committee, I would like to extend my most sincere thanks for your participation in the 2019 OMEP World Assembly and Conference. This year, over 400 early childhood researchers, practitioners, policymakers, advocates, and future teachers from around the world joined us in Panama City. I would especially like to thank the organizing committee, and Ulina Mapp, the president of OMEP Panama, as well as all of the supporting agencies, businesses, and organizations in Panama City. The conference could not have been so successful without the committee and the board. Thank you once again.

Here are some updates from the 2019 OMEP World Assembly that I would like to share with you.
A. 71st OMEP World Assembly and International Conference.
a. Membership
We agreed to accept one national committee, OMEP Iran, and two new preparatory committee, OMEP Belgium and Paraguay. We welcome all new committees and hope to continue working together in the future.
b. Election:
World President, World Treasurer, Regional Vice President of Asia Pacific and Latin America This year, we have newly elected OMEP world president, Mercedes Mayol Lassalle. Also we have newly elected World Treasurer and regional vice presidents for Asia Pacific and Latin America. Elin Eriksen Ødegaard, OMEP Norway, was elected for the World Treasurer. Udomluck Kulapichitr, president of OMEP Thailand, was reelected for the Asia Pacific region. Gladys Desirée López De Maturana Luna, OMEP Chile, was elected for the Latin America region.
c. Website Renewal
World OMEP French website (https://worldomep.org/fr/) has been renewed. Please visit our new website for more information about World OMEP.
d. OMEP: Theory into Practice
OMEP: Theory into Practice has been launched at the 2018 world assembly and conference in Prague, Czech in celebration of OMEP’s 70th anniversary. This year, the second volume was released.

e. New world projects has been launched
We have decided to proceed two new OMEP world projects. The first is ESD Rating Scale and the second is OMEP World Children’s Art project on UNCRC.
The project on the ‘ESD rating scale and tool kit for sustainability’ has adapted from the original ESD rating scale and endorsed by OMEP world assembly in Panama, 2019. Revised version tends to focus on raising awareness for transforming early education towards sustainability with the OMEP ESD rating scale and tool kit. The formal invitation to participate in the project will be sent out soon.
Second, the project on children’s art project on UNCRC has also been endorsed by OMEP world assembly. This is the 30th anniversary of UNCRC. Through this project, OMEP world would like to celebrate it in a more meaningful way. The formal information to participate in this project will be also sent out soon.
In addition to the new world projects, executive committee has endorsed run OMEP webinar series. This year we have started a trial version of OMEP webinar inviting Maria Pia on our first series on ECE policy and Ingrid Pramling Samuelsson on ESD. We plan to continue this meaningful sharing as an official OMEP webinar series on policy, practice, and research within OMEP. The financial support for maintaining the webinar platform will be provided by OMEP Korea for the next 10 years.
Lastly, we are planning to start an OMEP young scholar award in order to recruit many young professionals within OMEP community. The detailed information on OMEP young scholar award competition will be announced soon and the first award winners will present research at 2020 OMEP, Greece. OMEP Korea will also be providing for the financial support for young scholar award for next 10 years.
B. OMEP’s Work at UN/UNESCO: UNESCO 2019 Forum on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship
OMEP was officially invited to the UNESCO 2019 Forum on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship in Ha Noi, Viet Nam on 2 July 2019. The theme of UNESCO Forum was ‘Learning and Teaching for Peaceful and Sustainable Societies: From early childhood to primary and secondary education.’As a world president of OMEP, I have attended the forum and Ingrid Pramling Samuelsson also attended the forum as OMEP’s representative. The forum aimed to support synergies between ESD and GCED and foster a holistic approach to Target 4.7 of Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Education and the Education 2030 Agenda.

C. Regional Conferencea. Europe Regional Conference
2019 The OMEP Europe Regional Conference was held from May 17- 18, 2019 in Lisbon, Portugal. Theme of the conference was ‘Education for sustainable development’OMEP Portugal Committee hosted the conference, and with the cooperation of Europe regional committees successfully completed with delegations from 17 countries.

b. Asia Regional Conference 2019 The OMEP Asia Regional Conference was held from September 5-7, 2019 in Kyoto, Japan. Theme of the conference was ‘Quality of ECEC’OMEP Japan Committee hosted the conference, and with the cooperation of Asia Pacific regional committees, the conference was successfully completed with delegations from 10 countries, over 300 participants.

D. International Journal of Early Childhood
