Words of Christiane Bourdages Simpson-Vice-President North America and the Caribbean

January 12th. Today, the tenth anniversary of the earthquake brings back painful memories.

To remember so as not to forget. To remember those who lost their lives, but also to remember all the survivors. The colleagues of OMEP-Haití¯ are people of heart who, despite the obstacles and many challenges encountered over the years, continue their mission. Education, knowledge development and culture are powerful weapons to reduce vulnerabilities.

Our solidarity is also expressed in the declaration endorsed by the World Executive Committee of the World Organization for Early Childhood Education (OMEP) and the presidents and delegates of the National Committees present at the 71st World Assembly in Panama in 2019. We reaffirmed our commitment to progress in the realization and implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and to give priority to the best interests of the child. Solidarity with Haiti is part of this effort.
